The idea of establishing an independent shipping company gained strength in the country’s banking and business circles when the increase in the country’s import volume and the uncontrolled entry and exit of foreign ships in domestic ports caused problems in the country and prompted the authorities to study and examine the plan to establish the first and largest Iranian shipping company. In particular, the need for regular maritime transportation and considerations such as Iran’s specific geographical location, having long water borders, access to warm waters, and the critical sensitivity of transporting goods by sea were influential in this matter, and studies were conducted by the banking system and the Planning and Budget Organization in this regard. Admiral Marine Shipping was established in 1967 and began its sea transportation activities in 1968 with the use of two small ships in the Persian Gulf and four ocean-going ships.
